Hi F.,
Part of me is looking at it with skepticism:
It may be coming late, they know what they don't want, and they are trying to figure out what they want, but I still believe that they don't really know what they want (so difficult to change anything and easy to fall in the rhetoric). As if it is a scape valve of a general discontent of the system, but the system itself benefits from this, as people express the discontent, they feel great and then they go home to eat the same shit. It is like taking a dose of the drug that you need and then enjoy the high.
Make people comfortable on their discontent and keep going on the same system if they don't know how to change it.
But the other part is looking at it with lots of enthusiasm and optimism:
Hopefully this becomes to May of 68, where there are tangible proposals in the table and there is a bottom up revolution to make little but needed changes in social responsibility and political class change. It seems that it is not only a demonstration of discontent ("a la grec", destroying urban furniture and rioting the police). It seems that is going beyond that and some good outcome may come from this.
I am hopeful that the balance will go for the second more optimistic.

A dream of the Red Chamber

« KARIMERA » eat le mot « Bonjour » en Grec, et il me rapelle toujours une semaine merveilleuse que j’ai passé en Grèce en septembre 2000.
Je me souviens que je suis partie de Tokyo at ensuite j’ai changé d’avion à Moscow. Quand finalement je suis arrivée à l’aéroport d’Athènes, mon amie m’attendait-là. Nous nous sommes embrassés. Nous étions absolument ravi de nous rencontrer après trois ans de séparetion.
Elle est Grecque et elle est ma meilleure amie. Elle étudiait en architecture à la mère université que moi à Tokyo. Elle est retournée en Grèce après avoir fini ses études.
La Grèce est une péninsule en face de la Mediterranée. Pendant mon séjour à Athènes, il faisait soleil et les journées étaient longues. Mon amie et moi, nous avons visité l’Acropolis dont je rêvais depuis longtemps. Parce-que c’est le plus célèbra patrimoine d’architecture dans le monde entier et c’est l’origine de la culture européenne. J’ étais très surexcité quand je me suis mis debout en face de la Naostoo Parthenonos dont j’avais vu les photos bien des fois. J’ai pris beaucoup de diapositives.
Mais ce que j’amais le plus de la Grèce, c’étaient les îles qui flottent sur la Mediterranée. Nous sommes allées à l’ île qui s’appelait « Santorini ». Le paysage était fantastique. Le ciel était bieu sans nuage. La mer était bleue foncée comme le saphir. La roche était rousse foncée. Les maisons et les églises étaient blanches avec les toits bleus. Je m’excuse que mon français n’est pas assez bon pour decrire le paysage pittoresque comme ça.
Pendant la journée, nous nagions dans la mer et nous prenions du soleil sur la plage. La mer était tellement claire que je pouvais voir les petits poissons de multi couleurs qui nageaient autour de moi. Le nuit, nous buvions le vin Grecque en regardant les étoiles.
Est-ce qu’il y a le paradis sur la terre? Oui, pour moi, c’est l’ île « Santorini ».

Μετά τον Μεγάλο Σεισμό και το Τσουνάμι

Την ώρα του Κάπρου (22:00) έγινε ένας μεγάλος σεισμός. Απ’ άκρη σ’ άκρη άντρες και γυναίκες ούρλιαξαν, μπέρδεψαν τη Δύση με την Ανατολή. Ολόκληρα βουνά κατέρρευσαν και από μέσα τους ξεχύθηκαν ποτάμια• τα κρατικά κτίρια στις επαρχίες, οι αποθήκες και τα σπίτια των χωρικών, οι παγόδες και οι ναοί, όλα καταστράφηκαν σε βαθμό που ξεπερνά κάθε ιδέα. Όπως ήταν επόμενο πολλοί άνθρωποι και ζώα σκοτώθηκαν ή τραυματίστηκαν...Οι παλιοί λένε πως δεν θυμούνται τέτοιο σεισμό. Εκείνη τη νύχτα ένας ορυμαγδός που έμοιαζε με τύμπανα ακούστηκε απ’ την Ανατολή. Μερικοί είπαν πως το νησί Izu μεγάλωσε κι απ’ τις δυο μεριές, τη βορινή και τη δυτική, πάνω από 300 πήχες, και πως ένα νέο νησί δημιουργήθηκε• τα τύμπανα που ακούστηκαν ήταν από τους θεούς που έφτιαξαν το νησί...Ο Κυβερνήτης της Tosa ανέφερε πως σηκώθηκε ένα μεγάλο παλιρροιακό ρεύμα που βούλιαξε πολλά από τα πλοία που είχαν συγκεντρωθεί για να αποδώσουν τιμές.
